Fireboy, Joeboy, Or Rema — Who Has Had The Best Debut Album?
In 2019, The Headies’ nominee list for the Next Rated category was the tightest we’ve seen in a long time.
There was Rema, Fireboy, Joeboy, Zlatan, Lyta, and Victor AD. Of the six, only three were sort of new artists really and they were Rema, Fireboy, Joeboy. We immediately knew the winner was among those three guys.
Since the time they first debuted (Fireboy in 2018, and the other two early in 2019), they’ve been sensational and as at the time of the Next Rated award, they looked very promising.
They had hits, sure. But what people speculated about the most was what they could be, not what they were. The general consensus then was that Fireboy would conquer the local market and become like the new Davido. While Rema will become a sensation on the international scene (like WizKid.)
Joeboy was tipped to just become an African giant (maybe like Burna Boy.) Well, all that were just speculations, you know.
Needless to say, Rema went on to win that award on the same night Fireboy was performing at the O2, a month or so before Joeboy was on the smash hit, “Nobody.”
But three years have since passed and the three of them have now released their debut albums. And it’s time to judge who came out on top amongst the three.
Fireboy’s debut is “Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps,” one of the best albums we’ve heard in a long time. Joeboy took his time and released his last year. The album, “Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic” was a beautiful piece and had quite several hits on it.
It wasn’t until two weeks ago that we had Rema’s debut, “Rave & Roses,” though. Well, that’s probably enough time to know if it’s good or not. So we’re back to where we started from 👇🏼
